Eddiegul: Third bridge in Cebu south
CEBU, Philippines - Since the proposal for the construction of a third bridge is being proposed as a solution to worsening traffic in Metro Cebu, former three-term Cebu first district representative Eduardo Gullas believes the bridge should be constructed in southern Cebu.
"I would like to respectfully request the leadership planning on the third bridge that they should consider that it be available at the south," Gullas said.
Gullas called for a press conference yesterday morning in his office at the University of the Visayas after learning that a private corporation is willing to construct a bridge from Cebu City to Cordova town.
The Malayan Integrated Industries Corporation already submitted their proposal to Mayor Michael Rama in its bid to construct the third bridge that would connect mainland Cebu and Mactan Island.
The third bridge is initially eyed to connect Cordova town and southern coastal portion of Cebu City but Gullas said it would be more beneficial for the government if it be linking Cordova town and southern Cebu, particularly Talisay City.
"It has to be towards Talisay," Gullas said, referring to a spot somewhere in Barangay Tangke or San Roque.
Gullas also cited the proposal will complement the ongoing widening of the highway from Talisay City to Carcar City and the opening and construction of a second diversion road in Carcar.
Gullas said the diversion roads will benefit not only residents in Cebu's first district but also the motorists and commuters from all over Cebu, Negros Oriental and Bohol who pass by Carcar.
He said that the city's diversion road will start from the road going to the towns of Barili and Dumanjug, then to the national highway going to Sibonga, then to barangays Tuyom, Valladolid and Perrelos in Carcar. (FREEMAN)
