'Purok system' deemed effective

CEBU, Philippines - Three years ago, the Municipality of Liloan launched "purok system" whose main purpose is to mobilize the residents in the different sitios to get involved in the implementation of programs, especially those related to environmental protection and preservation.

Now the purok system is a big success in Liloan, as Mayor Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco noted the support and cooperation of the people.

The purok system week was celebrated in Liloan town last month participated in by more than 200 puroks in the different barangays of Liloan. Liloan is composed of 14 barangays.

Awards and prizes were given to best puroks, best schools and best barangays in the implementation of the environmental program of Liloan.

Under the purok system, residents in the different are involved in the implementation of the town's clean and green programs and others related to the preservation and protection of environment.

The town also monitors the strict implementation of the collection of garbage with the adoption of no segregation, no collection policy.  (FREEMAN)
