Compostela sets aside P1M for rebuilding

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The municipal government of Compostela has allocated close to P1 million in financial assistance to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda whose houses were either partially or totally damaged.

Mayor Joel Quiño and members of the Sangguniang Bayan in Compostela agreed to allocate P970,000 as financial assistance to the residents in northern Cebu towns affected by last year's monster typhoon.

Officials said although the focus of the assistance of the national government and the private sector was some northern towns in Cebu, Compostela town is also home to residents who were victims of the typhoon.

Records at the Municipal Social Welfare Office disclosed that a total of 373 houses were partially damaged while 44 houses were totally damaged.

Quiño said he directed the MSWO, in coordination with the treasurer's office, to distribute the financial assistance to the typhoon victims.

Those who own the partially damaged houses will receive P2,000 while whose who have totally damages houses will get P5,000.

The MSWO will be closely coordinating with the barangay officials in the distribution of financial assistance, the mayor said.  (FREEMAN)
