Depressed woman hangs self to death

CEBU, Philippines - Depressed that her live-in partner and her two children had left her, a 30-year-old woman was found lifeless after she committed suicide yesterday morning inside their house in Barangay Calawisan, Lapu-Lapu City.

Jocelyn Abelgas was found dead by her grandmother after she hanged herself with the use of a blanket attached to a wooden beam inside their house at around 7 a.m. yesterday.

Neighbors immediately rushed Abelgas to the Mactan Doctors' Hospital but the latter was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.

Police investigation revealed that Abelgas' grandmother named Carmelita Ywayan noticed and wondered why Abelgas didn't open her store which she usually does early morning each day.

She then knocked on the door of the victim's house as she wanted to ask her store was yet close but she said the victim did not open the door. This prompted her to peek on a window but was instead surprised to see the victim had committed suicide.

It was learned from Ywayan that the victim has been depressed for several days now after her live-in partner left her when their relationship went sour.

She reportedly got more depressed after the parents of her live-in partner took her children and did not allegedly return them to her.

She allegedly tried calling her mother-in-law but she could no longer be contacted which Ywayan believed could have been the cause why the victim committed the suicide. — (FREEMAN)
