'Pantawid' recipients asked to avail of livelihood training

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza urged the beneficiaries of the national government's Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (PPPP) to avail of a livelihood training offered by a cooperative as early as now.

This as the first set of beneficiaries in the city will stop receiving subsidy in two years.

Currently, beneficiaries of the program receive P500 per month for health and nutrition expenses and P300 per month for every child below 15 years old, maximum of three children, for their education.

The Pantawid program of the national government aims to address the country's low educational achievement, high maternal and infant mortality rate, high malnutrition rate and high incidence of child labor.

Radaza, however, assured that livelihood trainings are always available for them once they stop receiving subsidy from the program.

She said she wants the almost 6,000 beneficiaries of the PPPP in the city to be able to stand on their own.

"I've always encouraged them to avail of the livelihood training offered by the Kababayen-an cooperative as early as now," Radaza said.

The cooperative offers various trainings such as foodmaking, soapmaking and reflexology, among others, all of which are free of charge. (FREEMAN)
