Jonas inaugurates alternative route to north road

CEBU, Philippines - A newly paved alternative road located in the Cubacub-Casili area, Mandaue City was inaugurated the other day by Mayor Jonas Cortes.

The 434-lineal meter two-lane road named as D.L. Bihag Street is an alternative route from M. C. Briones Street or the North Road Jagobiao-Basak to Consolacion via Canduman road.

The city road project costing some P4 million will primarily benefit residents in the area, particularly, homeowners of DECA Homes, Christ the King subdivision, and Kauswagan village, said barangay Cubacub captain Almario Bihag. 

Cortes, assisted by his wife Sarah Walker-Cortes, cut the ceremonial ribbon in a simple ceremony which was preceded with a blessing by Fr. Lito Peralta of Nativity of Mary Parish.

Josephine Verdida, representative of DECA Homes who attended the ceremony expressed elation saying this will give them convenience.

The project consisted of three phases, the 320-lineal meter Casili Road Project costing P3.2 million and contracted by Ascencion Construction, the 72-lineal meter Cubacub project costing P726,000 and contracted to Ferac Builders, and the 42-lineal meter gap road project, which connects the two barangay road projects.  

“Dako kaayo nig matabang pagdecongest sa traffic sa main roads (this is a big help in decongesting traffic in the main roads),” Bihag said.

Barangay Cubacub captain Paterno Cabatingan, Jr. for his part welcomed the opening saying it benefits the general public.

North bound vehicles can take this road without passing the north road by either passing the Talamban area or the Mandaue area via M. L. Quezon Street towards Canduman then uphill to Cubacub main road passing DECA Homes Subdivision, then to Lower Casili and right turn upon reaching Casili-Mandaue/Casili-Consolacion bridge then right turn to town proper exiting in front of Foodarama-Consolacion.

On the other hand, south-bound vehicles may also take the area without passing the north road using the same route. — MNS (FREEMAN)
