Group to track progress of proposed ordinances

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Councilor Diosdado P. Suico has proposed an ordinance that seeks to create a legislative tracking committee that will track the progress of ordinances after these have been enacted to determine the status and how these are being implemented.

Suico said the idea was hatched during the deliberation of the Executive-Legislative Agenda for the Calendar Year 2013-2016.

"While there is an expressed codal provision mandating the separation of powers between the local chief executive and the legislative department of the same local government unit, it is also mandated to devise a system that would promote and strengthen the legislative and executive harmony and partnership in the performance of local governance," Suico said.

Suico proposes that the legislative tracking committee should be composed of the following: chairman - the chairman of the city council standing committee on laws and ordinances, members-chairman, committee on economic enterprise, chairman committee on planning development and socialized housing, committee on public works and infrastructure, committee on labor and employment, livelihood and manpower development. — (FREEMAN)
