Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Some evacuees from Tacloban City have taken refuge at the Missionary of the Poor monastery in sitio Uldog, barangay Poblacion, Talisay City.

Jamaican missionary Father Kulandairaj Ambrose yesterday said some evacuees were taken from an evacuation center in barangay Tinago in Cebu City and brought to the monastery.

Two families comprising of 20 persons stayed at the monastery but some of them had already left for Manila, he said.

He said more evacuees were expected to arrive yesterday afternoon at the monastery.

Father Ambrose said the monastery has room for evacuees.

With or without calamities, the monastery is also open to vulnerable persons such as homeless elders, persons with disabilities, women with children, and abandoned children.

He said those who need help and looking for shelter can stay at the monastery for as long as they like.

The monastery has also a shelter at Sawang Calero in Cebu City. — (FREEMAN)
