Security Bank, Ateneo de Manila U donate school buildings to Mandaue
CEBU, Philippines - The Security Bank Foundation and the Ateneo de Manila University yesterday turned over school buildings worth P6 million to Jagobiao Elementary School and the Basak Elementary School in Mandaue City.
Each school building has six classrooms.
Mayor Jonas Cortes said the turnover came just as the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that hit the Visayas three weeks ago left 63 classrooms in the city unfit for occupancy.
He said the donation will help offset the shortage in classrooms.
“We are happy that the donors chose Mandaue. We badly need classrooms. Daan na ta nagkuwang og classroom, gitiwasan pa g’yud sa linog,†Cortes said.
Cortes said the two-story buildings do not show any crack despite the quake.
Rafael Simpao Jr., chairman of Security Bank Foundation, said the bank donates school buildings as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Simpao said the foundation has constructed 89 school buildings across the country.
Cortes said the city streamlines requirements for donations to encourage more entities and individuals to donate. (FREEMAN)
