Talisay park cleaners and guards donate to quake victims

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - In Talisay City, the city’s parks and playgrounds  maintenance keepers and wardens set aside a portion of their last salary to buy water for earthquake victims in Bohol.

Elaine Cabigas, head of the keepers of Poblacion public parks and playgrounds, said when she saw the announcement of the Knight-Stewards of the Sea, Inc. (Seaknights) asking for empty water containers, she immediately  relayed it to her people.

Cabigas has at least 100 people, mostly contractual workers of the city government under  her supervision.

In less than 24 hours, these people pledged to raise the sum, which would later on be enough to buy 70 brand-new water containers and purified water to refill them.

“Nalipay ra pud ko nga wa gyuy nibalibad. Ang uban gani niingun nga maayo na lang gilikay ang Cebu sa disgrasya busa motabang gyud ta,” she said.

Most of  these workers live below the poverty line which means the money they gave for Bohol would have been enough to feed their families for a day or two.

“Sa sitwasyon karon, bisag pobre ta, mas gikinahanglan gyud kung unsa atong matabang para sa mga naapektuhan intawon sa linog,” Cabigas said.

The group’s donation will be sent by the Seaknights to Sagbayan town in Bohol next week. â€“ (FREEMAN)
