Mandaue City awards outstanding children

Mandaue City, Philippines – The Mandaue City Council for the Protection of Children (MCCPC) awarded this afternoon 34 children for their respective field of achievements, one of the highlights of the Children’s month celebrated in the city.

The awardees included 25 “Outstanding Children in Academe”, five as winners of “Halad sa Kabataan 2013” and four others as community (street) children who graduated from TESDA accredited Mandaue City College Technical, Entrepreneurial,  Skills  Training (MCCTEST) Center.

All of them received a plaque and a symbolic P2,000 check.

Giving the awards in a ceremony held at city hall grounds were Councilor Nenita Layese, co-chair of MCCPC  in behalf of Mayor Jonas Cortes. Assisting were councilors Diosdado Suico, Jimmy Lumapas, Jun Cortes, Elstone Dabon and Benjamin Basiga, Maricel Yu, focal person of MCCPC and DEPED supervisor Faye Luarez.

Topping the academic excellence category was Joshua Ian Garcia, 4th year high school of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

Garcia is a recipient of several awards on leadership character service and academic excellence, a consistent honor student in his ele-mentary years, an Eagle Scout, the highest youth award of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines as well as recipient of “Ave Maria Award”  and a member of Philippine de-legation to the Korean National Scout Jamboree 2012 in Goseng, Gangwon, South Korea.

He is followed by Peace Marie Panangin, a consistent honor student of St. Louis College-Cebu.

Coming next were Wynne David Gogo, , 4th year, consistent honor of Mandaue City School for the Arts, news editor of official school publication, “Sidlak”; Noel Christian Solon, 4th year student of Mandaue City Science High School and a consistent top ten student of the class since grade one up to present.

Also awarded for ha-ving graduated in Automa-tice Mechanic from MCCTEST were four former community (street) children, Rustum Umpad, Gerry Sido, Alvin Caro and Stephen Laurente.

“Being outstanding does not necessarily mean doing great deeds or heroic feats but sometimes it just mean we do little acts of goodness,” said Joshua in his response in behalf of the awardees.

Also given recognition were five Danish volunteers, Mette Anderson, Katrine Nielsen, Mikkel Lund Hansen, Troels Larsen and Shannon Pickett. (FREEMAN)
