Comelec disqualifies 2 barangay aspirants
CEBU, Philippines - The Commission on Elections has disqualified two aspirants for the October 28 barangay elections for the reason that their names have been removed from the voters’ list.
Anna-Lou Bacho, Talisay City Comelec election assistant, said the candidates didn’t know they weren’t registered voters anymore.
A voter loses the right to vote after failing to vote three consecutive times.
Bacho said the two candidates should ask Comelec to included their names in the voters’ list again which will allow them to vote or run for public office.
Yesterday was the last day of filing of Certificates of Candidacy.
Bacho said from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. yesterday 85 candidates for councilman and captain filed their COCs.
No COCs were entertained after 5:00 p.m. yesterday. She said an extension for the filing of COCs rests on Comelec-Manila.
Records show there will be 61 candidates for barangay captain and 462 for councilman in Talisay City. (FREEMAN)
