Radaza order CH checked for damages
CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Paz Radaza yesterday ordered city hall inspected on account of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake Tuesday.
The City Engineering Office found hairline cracks in the city hall building and other government offices.
The adjacent Palace of Justice building was also ordered closed to give way to the inspection by the city engineering personnel.
City administrator Teodulo Ybanez said they will wait for the report to be submitted by the City Engineering Office.
The results of the inspection will be the basis of action of the city government especially as regards school buildings.
Classes in public and private schools in Lapu-Lapu City were suspended yesterday.
In a related development, city hall officials said damage done by the earthquake was minimal except for a row of houses that allegedly was on the verge of being gobbled up by an alleged sinkhole in purok Kapayas in barangay Canjulao.
An hour after the earthquake, a house owned by one James Berdin, collapsed.
Ybanez said an investigation will be conducted to determine whether the house had secured permits from the city engineering office.
Ybanez also said a landslide occurred in barangay Pusok near the shooting range at Pusok Cemento. (FREEMAN)
