300 families in Talisay moved after quake

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  More than 300 families from three barangays in Talisay City were sent away to evacuation centers in their barangays after the strong earthquake last Tuesday morning.

Talisay City Public Information Officer (PIO) and chief of Local Risk Reduction Management Council, Vincie Monterde said 63 families of  sitio Tiguib, barangay Lagtang were evacuated because of suspicions of a landslide.

Some evacuees might remain at evacuation centers because their houses collapsed during the earthquake.

Meanwhile, 66 families in sitio Sambagan and 80 families of sitio San Rafael both in barangay Tanke were evacuated while 150 families in barangay San Roque had left their homes.

But the 150 families in San Roque returned to their houses Tuesday evening.

Tanke and San Roque are coastal barangays.

According to Monterde, the residents here suspect a tsunami could strike their homes.

The city social welfare had distributed rice, sardines, and noodles, he said.

Monterde said a command center was put up at the city hall to assist residents affected by the earthquake.  (FREEMAN)
