Talisay’s website upgrade sought

CEBU, Philippines - With the creation of Talisay City information technology (IT) department, Councilor Danilo Caballero wants the city planning and development coordinator (CPDC) to formulate integrated information and communication technology development plans for the maintenance of the existing website of the city. 

“The existing website (www.talisaycitycebu.gov.ph) provides obsolete information and it is necessary to be developed and updated for it is globally accessed as the primary source of information for the City of Talisay,” Caballero said. 

His resolution was co-sponsored by Aldrin Diaz. 

Caballero said Talisay being a component city that has more than 200,000 registered voters, there is a necessity to develop strategies on how to publicize important information for the development of its economy, tourism and effective delivery of basic services. 

Under Article III, Section 7 of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines, it states that the right of the people to official records of matters of public concern shall be recognized and access to official records, documents and papers pertaining to official acts, transactions or decisions as well as to government research data used as basis for policy development, shall be afforded the citizen, subject to such limitations as may be provided by law.

The State also recognizes the vital role of information and communications technology (ICT) in nation-building and the need to create an information-friendly environment which supports and ensures the availability, diversity and affordability of ICT products and services with appropriate training programs and institutional policy changes, human resources for the information technology age. 

“There an existing world wide website for the City of   Talisay that contains vital information about its history, executive and legislative functions, procurement, tourism and barangay profiles,” he said. 

Diaz said that an IT department can address any computer software problems, website maintenance, solutions, and recommend replacements. 

Diaz was an executive representative to the city’s Information Technology Department appointed by Mayor Johnny De los Reyes and currently the chairman of the city council’s committee on communication and information technology. (FREEMAN)
