CEBU, Philippines - The Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) has won the support of the Talisay City council as it formally presented the “Mega Cebu Vision 2050” program.

City Councilor Socrates C. Fernandez said the importance and need to collaborate and coordinate with Mega Cebu is not only to achieve the development direction and thrust of the city but also the city-region of which the city is a part of and plays a vital role in its development.

In last Tuesday’s council session, the council authorized Mayor Johnny V. De los Reyes to sign for and in behalf of the city government of Talisay the covenant during the Metro Cebu Development Coordinating Board (MCDCB) full board meeting last August 1.

With the support of Mega Cebu, the city government will appropriate budget and resources (office, personnel, etc.) for the efficient and effective implementation of the LGU Mega Cebu Program.

This also allows the Integrated Development Unit of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. to conduct multi-sectoral orientation of Mega Cebu to the constituents of the City of Talisay.

Mega Cebu Vision 2050 is an urban development vision and cooperation among the seven cities and six towns that comprise the Metropolitan Cebu which show heavy concentration of development, urbanization, and economic growth.

The Mega Cebu will also focus on major areas of cooperation, to wit: integrated development, urban and land use planning and zoning; transport and traffic management; pollution control  and solid waste disposal and management; flood control drainage and sewerage system; public safety and security; road improvement and infrastructure development; urban renewal and shelter; coastal resources and watershed management; climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction; and health and sanitation and environmental management.

Based on the framework of a city region, LGUs are encouraged to collaborate and coordinate policies, plans, programs, projects, and practices addressing common and trans-boundary assets, issues and challenges relative on identified focus areas.

“The City of Talisay recognizes the need to provide wholesome, equitable and sustainable development to its constituents,” Fernandez said.  (FREEMAN)
