Police file charges vs. men in botched attack at checkpoint

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The police in Talisay City have filed charges against two men who on Monday evening attacked policemen at a checkpoint at Ramona Village, barangay San Isidro, Talisay City.

At a checkpoint, Jake Solis Macarambon and Elmer Aballe Macarambon were arrested after “attacking” policemen.

The two men’s guns failed to fire and a hand grenade failed to explode.

Superintendent Resty Santos, officer-in-charge of Talisay City Police Station, suspects the two men, who are from Mindanao, belong to a criminal group in Cebu.

Santos also said Elmer’s wife had asked him to refrain from filing an illegal possession of explosives case for the reason that this would prevent her husband from posting bail. — (FREEMAN)
