Barangay Ibabao-Estancia inaugurates P7.5M gymnasium

CEBU, Philippines - Barangay in Mandaue City can now host basketball tournaments and other big events after it has completed its P7.5 million multi-purpose gym located within its elementary school complex.

Carmelino del Mar, Jr., barangay chairman, said the facility, painted yellow and the second biggest after its barangay hall, sits on a 660-square meter lot and enclosed with steel bars.

Contracted by RC Tagala Construction and funded by the city government, the structure is equipped with standard basketball boards and three comfort rooms, one for males, another for females, and a third one for guests.

With an electronic scoreboard about to be installed and existing 16 modern lights, the facility can host games in the evening.

According to Del Mar the barangay is scheduled to have the floor rubberized and construct bleachers.

With a sitting capacity of 1,000, other events aside from sports can also be held since it has a movable stage.

“I thank the mayor for facilitating the completion of the gym, now it is translated into public convenience,” said del Mar during last Saturday’s blessing and cutting of ceremonial ribbon with Mayor Jonas Cortes and members of the barangay council and other officials.

Del Mar said the completion is in time for the opening of the annual barangay sportsfest on September 8.

With a population of 12,500, the barangay is a host to big firms including Pacific Mall, Palawan regional center, and Unilab, among others.
