CEBU, Philippines - An employee of a well-known bakeshop was arrested Tuesday while in the act of swindling a customer.

The Investigative and Detective Management Bureau (IDMB) of the Mandaue City Police Office arrested Teofilo Joyo Jr., 25, a marketing coordinator of San Jose Bakeshop Corporation in A.S. Fortuna Street in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City was arrested by IDMB operatives led by IDMB chief P /Sr. Insp. Jimmy Fortez while collecting money from Perez Bello, officer-in-charge of the canteen of the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu-Mandaue City, even if he was not authorized to do so.

It was Joyo’s second arrest for the same offense.

Emelyn Villahermosa, the human resource manager of San Jose Bakeshop, said Joyo had previously collected P1,550 from Bello as payment for the breads the canteen took on credit from the bakeshop.

Bello orders bread in bulk from San Jose and pays the bakery on a weekly basis.

Last August 9, Villarhermosa said they dropped by at the UC-LM canteen to collect P1,550 from Bello but was told that Joyo had already collected the money and had even issued a receipt.

However, the receipt turned out to be spurious.

Villahermosa tried to contact Joyo but the man’s phone couldn’t be reached.

Last August 20, Joyo called Bello to tell him he was to collect payment again.

When she learned about it, Villahermosa immediately called the police.

Joyo is now detained at the Opao police station. —  (FREEMAN)
