Talisay to revive ban on plastic ordinance

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City administration will strictly implement the ordinance that bans the use of plastic in the city starting Sept. 1 this year.

Talisay City Public Information Officer (PIO) Vincie Monterde said the ordinance was approved by the previous administration in February 5, 2011 but was never implemented.

All establishments in the city and the public market will soon be forbidden to use plastic bags or wrappers.

Monterde said vendors, shoppers, as well as market goers will be encouraged to use recyclable or paper bags.

Fines will be imposed on violators.

Materials made of plastic often obstruct drainage systems which lead to flooding.  (FREEMAN)
