Funds for road repair sought

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Valeriano “Val” Ylanan is asking for the repair of a portion of Cong. A. Bacaltos Street at barangay Lawaan.

In a proposed resolution, Ylanan seeks an allotment from the Office of the Mayor for the repair of a portion of the road, which can be damaged further by the expected coming rains.

“It has been observed that the road and drainage of Lawaan II, along the Queensland establishment, Pooc Road was heavily dilapidated due to bad weather and excessive wear and tear,” Ylanan said.

Under the Local Government Code, Section 17 provides that the government shall endeavor to be self-reliant and shall continue exercising the powers and discharging the duties and functions currently vested upon them. They shall also discharge the functions and responsibilities of national agencies and offices devolved to them pursuant to this code, that local government units shall likewise exercise such other powers and discharge such other functions and responsibilities as are necessary, appropriate, or incidental to efficient and effective provision of the basic services and facilities.

Ylanan also ask the city engineering office to assess the situation in the area as its main objective is to provide technical supervision and control of overall activities relative to maintenance, construction, rehabilitation, betterment, improvement of roads and bridges of the city and other engineering activities, to construct, improve, maintain and repair city buildings and structures.  (FREEMAN)
