Village chief asks city to relocate 26 families

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Barangay Casuntingan captain Oscar Del Castillo has recommended the relocation of 26 families who reside in sitio Lub-ang in Mandaue City where two landslides took place last week.

Del Castillo said he is waiting for word from the Housing and Urban Development Office (HUDO) with regards his proposal.

He fears more landslides will take place in the area which is situated between a hill and the Butuanon River.

If it would be impossible for the city to relocate the families, he hopes the city can find a place for the ten families who lost their homes to landslides last August 3 and August 6.

Del Castillo said these 10 families live in a temporary shelter set up by the city at a basketball court in Lub- ang.

The families have received relief goods from the City Social Welfare Service Office and from the Capitol yesterday.

Earlier, Mayor Jonas Cortes said the city will find a way to accommodate the families in the 6.5-hectare relocation site in barangay Paknaan. (FREEMAN)
