JVR watches garbage trucks’ fuel consumption

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes has threatened to take any garbage truck driver to court if he is caught helping himself to the fuel in the truck’s gasoline tank.

The mayor does not believe 100 liters of fuel valued at P4,000 would be insufficient to make the rounds on a single day, and suspects fuel is being siphoned off and sold.

To erase doubts, fuel tanks have been sealed.

If a truck runs out of fuel, the driver should call the office and office personnel will bring the fuel.

On other hand, Edwin Nierves, head of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Collection and Transport, said 100 liters of fuel  may be too little for a 24-hour operation.

He said garbage compactors consume more fuel because of its nature as compared to an ordinary garbage truck. (FREEMAN)
