Police arrest 2 men for gun possession
CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested Tuesday two men in Mandaue City for carrying firearms.
First to fall was Rene Labus alias “Pakra†of barangay Apas, Cebu City while his companion eluded arrest.
After receiving a call from a concerned citizen who alleged seeing two men in the neighborhood acting suspiciously, the police quickly responded.
Casuntingan police station chief P Sr./Insp Ramil Morpos said as soon as he and his men arrived at the place, they saw two men moving away on a motorcycle that had no plate number.
As it happened, one of the men dropped something to the ground, which turned out to be a loaded .38 cal. revolver.
Morpos’s team in coordination with the police from barangay Mabolo gave chase.
The chase ended in sitio Lower Calvary Hills in barangay Apas, Cebu City where Labus was arrested with the help of a village watchman.
Labus’ companion, a certain Albart, the man who drove the motorcycle, escaped.
Morpos said the police will run a background check on Labus given that the man was allegedly involved in a couple of robbery-holdup cases in the past but was never arrested.
Labus’ accomplice “Albart†was also allegedly involved in robberies.
In 2009, he was however arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 for human trafficking. But the case filed against him was dismissed.
Morpos believed that had Labus not been arrested, a robbery in the neighborhood might have been pulled.
Police have already filed charges against Labus.
In another development, the Investigative and Detective Management Branch (IDMB), after getting a call from a concerned citizen, went to FGelicitas Village in barangay Looc, Mandaue City and there arrested a man for possessing an unlicensed gun.
Arrested was Lactum Sayson alias “Lantoy,†21, a notorious person who had been arrested in the past for burglary, SPO2 Marcos Noval said.
He is now detained at the Opao police station.
Sayson now faces charges in the Mandaue City Prosecutors Office. — (FREEMAN)
