CEBU, Philippines - The police saved a 60-year-old woman of Purok Tambis in barangay Umapad, Mandaue City from drowning after jumping off the Marcelo Fernan Bridge early yesterday morning.

SPO2 Juan Calamba of the Opao Police station said neighbors saw her at the bridge at around 6 a.m. and became worried when she started to climb the railings.

The woman, whose identity is being withheld, had already jumped off the bridge when the police arrived.

PO2 Pasaylo Bandolan of the Opao police station, on a borrowed pump boat, plucked the woman from the water.

She was taken to the Mandaue City Hospital.

According to her children, she has been contemplating suicide since her husband death months ago.

In the past, she tried to hang herself and in another instance tried to swallow kerosene, only to be thwarted by her children. (FREEMAN)
