Talisay soon to have a solar energy plant
CEBU, Philippines - A solar energy plant is set to rise in Talisay City.
Mayor Johnny De los Reyes yesterday said the plant, which will be built in barangay Maghaway, will be the first solar power plant in the city, which would enable residents to have access to free electricity.
It is a project of Climate Change Commission, under the Office of the President, which aims to shift the country’s fuel system to 100-percent clean and renewable energy system.
De los Reyes said former senator Heherson Alvarez, secretary of Climate Change Commission and presidential adviser on global warming and climate change, broached the idea when he visited the city last week.
The city will allocate eight hectares of land for the solar power project, the mayor said.
He said Hi-Tech Lighting World Corporation, represented by Marc Cools, has proposed to put up the solar power plant which will cost close to P580 million.
De los Reyes said the expenses will be shouldered by the company.
“The money which can be saved from the solar power project will be allocated for senior citizens’ needs,†De los Reyes said, adding that the city is guaranteed a yearly income of P10 million, which is sustainable for 15 to 20 years.
The mayor said the renewable energy will also attract investors. (FREEMAN)
