Riprap is answer to school’s flood woes
CEBU, Philippines - For Department of Education’s physical facilities coordinator Engr. Cielo Jamora, putting up a riprap will solve the flooding at the Cesar M. Cabahug Elementary School in barangay Looc, Mandaue City.
In a press conference yesterday, Jamora said that to prevent seawater from entering the school grounds, a riprap measuring 1.5 meters wide by 1 meter high should be built.
Jamora said the flooding is not a year-round problem and the construction of a riprap would do the trick.
Her explanation came after a week after inspecting the school.
“Dili man ni siya whole year round nga problem gud,†Jamora said.
She said the school gets flooded only during high tide in June, July, and August.
In the last week of July, the school is expected to be flooded due to high tide.
Construction of the riprap won’t cost more than P50,000.
Jamora said the school was advised to get funding from school-based repair management fund or get it from the barangay or the local government.
Jamora said the DepEd doesn’t have funds intended for the installation of ripraps. (FREEMAN)
