CEBU, Philippines - A native of Papua New Guinea was arrested and detained for allegedly throwing a tantrum and concealing a deadly weapon while having a drink yesterday dawn along A. S. Fortuna Street in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City.

Jason Lokani, enrolled in a computer engineering course in one of the local universities here, smashed a beer bottle at a store where he was drinking.

Moments later, two men came and struck him with something resembling a rock, hitting his head.

Lokani fled with the two men on his heels.

Insp. Gerardo Fiel who was coming from Cebu City and on his way to the Lapu-lapu City Police Office on his motorcycle, saw Lokani running and being chased by two men.

Fiel stopped the men who were chasing Lokani and inquired.

When told that the Papuan was armed with a deadly weapon, Fiel followed him.

He was taken to the Casuntingan police station and detained.

Police chief Senior Insp. Ramil Morpos said Lokani had claimed he brought with him a sharp bladed weapon to open a beer bottle and didn’t have the intention to harm any people.

Charges were filed against Lokani yesterday.  (FREEMAN)
