Talisay councilor ditches own proposal

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Edward Alesna has withdrawn his proposal which seeks the conversion of the Lagtang Public Market into a technical-vocational school or an extension of the Talisay City College, and leave the decision-making to Mayor-elect Johnny delos Reyes whose administration takes over city hall on July 1.

“I am withdrawing it. Atong ihatag sa new administration ang desisyon kung unsaon na nila,” Alesna said.

By doing so, he said he would avoid being labeled a “midnight legislator.”

Alesna, chairman of the committee on market and slaughterhouse, said it is necessary to create a technical-vocational school in order to give the less fortunate constituents the opportunity to take vocational courses.

First district Representative Eduardo Gullas was the first to propose the conversion of the Lagtang public market into a technical-vocational school.  (FREEMAN)
