Lapu-Lapu suffers from lack of classrooms, land

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu needs classrooms, and, guess what, it also needs land where these classrooms will be built.

After the opening of classes last Monday, officials of the Department of Education told Mayor Paz Radaza that lack of land is also a problem facing the agency.

Radaza said the city is encouraging businessmen and big establishments in Lapu-Lapu to donate classrooms, but it also needs land.

“Usa gyud sa atong gipaningkamutan karon nga mahatagan nato ug sulbad ang problema sa kakulang sa atong classrooms,” said Mayor Radaza.

She also wants an inventory of available lots in every barangay.

Radaza said she has asked Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong and members of the city council to review the budget for the Special Education Fund and asked for additional budget.

Based of the earlier report of the Department of Education, Lapu-Lapu City needs 362 classrooms this year. (FREEMAN)
