Capsized cargo ship refloated

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - After two months being under seawater, the MV Maria Angelica Grace, the cargo ship which capsized while loading cargo at the Labogon wharf in Mandaue city, was finally refloated.

However, the Coast Guard said its owner will face adjudication hearings for the administrative fines that need to be settled.

Winiel Azcuna, head of the Philippine Coast Guard said the vessel after it was refloated at the Mactan Channel was towed to the PKS Shipyard in Consolacion town for repairs.

Azcuna said the ship needs to be repaired before it is turned over to its owner, being part of the insurance coverage of the ship including the repair of trucks and other cargoes that were damaged when it capsized at the Cabahug wharf last March 11. (FREEMAN)
