Teachers reminded about “bullying”

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Public school teachers in Mandaue City who punish students in front of classmates violate the “anti-bullying policy “of the Department of Education (Deped).

DepEd Mandaue City administrative officer Benjamin Tiongson said teachers are constantly reminded about the policy.

Ordering a student to face the wall as a punishment is considered a form of bullying, which could cause him mental anguish and physical and emotional disturbance that could affect his studies and growth.

Tiongson advised teachers to bring an erring student to the guidance counselor instead of punishing him in front of their classmates.  (FREEMAN)
