Freeman Metro Cebu

More than 70% went out to vote

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - More than 70 percent of registered voters in Talisay City cast their votes in the just concluded elections.

Based on Comelec records, the city has 111,696 registered voters but only 85,198 participated in the electoral process.

On Election Day, some voters from barangay Dumlog, Poblacion, Tabunok, and Mohon failed to vote because their names were missing from the voter’s list.

Ade Bas, of the Talisay City Comelec, said yesterday the Comelec had received reports which said some voters had no patience staying in line for a long time to be able to find out whether their names appear in the voter’s list.

Bas said every precinct had 200 registered voters.

She said every cluster had a minimum of two precincts and a maximum of six precincts.

On other hand, the newly elected city officials were Liberal Party candidates Johnny Delos Reyes as city mayor and Romeo Villarante as vice mayor.

The victorious councilors are Danny Caballero and Val Ylanan of the Liberal Party; Richard Francis “Choy” Aznar, former city mayor Socrates Fernandez, Dennis Basillote of Alayon, Aldin Diaz of the Liberal Party, Doroteo “Dory” Emit, Antonio Bacaltos Jr. and Eduardo Gullas III of Alayon.  (FREEMAN)
