CEBU, Philippines - The taxi driver who was robbed and shot on the head by one of two men last April 26 died in hospital after fighting for his life for 15 hours.

His assailants are now in police custody.

SPO1 Elmer Canillo in an interview with The Freeman said Jose Dino Rota Caberos passed away at 4:30 p.m. last April 26, the same day he was robbed.

Canillo said Caberos positively identified the two men who robbed and shot him as Rene Jay Baroro Pelayo, 19, single, and Jap Marwin Cabalhug, 18, who are both residents of sitio Carajay, barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

On the same day, the Lapu-Lapu City police sprang into action and apprehended Cabalhug.

Pelayo was brought to the Lapu-Lapu City police headquarters by his uncle PO1 Aldrin Pelayo and his step father.

Pelayo and Cabalhug have admitted to the crime.

Pelayo sustained a wound on his right leg after kicking the rear window to get out of the taxi.

On the other hand, Myco Apitong Maru was arrested earlier by Station 3 personnel for possession of a deadly weapon.

Maru is one of the suspects that robbed another taxi driver the other day.  (FREEMAN)
