CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Police Office director Petronellie Baldebrin will investigate claims made by former PBA player Mon Fernandez that the battery and stereo of his Starex were missing when the van was returned to him after this was recovered by the police.

The van was among the 12 stolen vehicles recovered by the police almost two months ago from a gang composed mostly of Korean nationals.

The recovered vans were temporarily placed at the Mandaue City Sport Complex pending the filing of cases against the Korean nationals and two Filipino cohorts.

After the charges were filed, the owners of the stolen cars were then told to claim them.

Some owners immediately claimed their vehicles but those who just recently claimed theirs, as Fernandez did, discovered some parts of their vehicles missing.

â€œAng ilang gi-agad kay ilang convenience ra man. Wala sila naghuna-huna nga nakaperwisyo pud sila sa syudad kay didto man na sa complex gibutang,” Baldebrin said.

He said policemen assigned to secure the cars also had other things to do.

Personnel from the City Public Safety Company (CPSC) were detailed in the area to secure the vans.

Among the 13 recovered vans, four were stolen in Mandaue; two were from Lapu-Lapu; six from Cebu City, while the last one has not been claimed.

Baldebrin said that when the vehicles were recovered from Mandaue, these were towed to the complex, with accessories such as batteries were already missing.
