CEBU, Philippines - DPWH-7 assured yesterday that the repair of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge will be finished before Election Day next month.

Engr. Renult Ricardo of the Sixth District Engineering Office said asphalting at the bridge will be suspended on April 26-27 as Lapu-Lapu City celebrates “Kadaugan sa Mactan” but guarantees to finish the work on the first week of May.

Two lanes going to Mandaue City have already been asphalted.

The contractor has also finished repairing two expansion joints.

Ricardo said the contractor is currently working on the bridge’s viaduct.

He said workers of PLD Construction hope they could finish the work two days before Election Day because they will also go home to their provinces to vote.

Repair of the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge is estimated to cost P18 million which includes asphalt overlay of the whole stretch and some repair of the piers below.

The budget for the Marcelo Fernan Bridge is pegged at P27 million which will cover asphalt overlay and the repair of two expansion joints. (FREEMAN)
