Bucao denies vendors threw tomatoes at him

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Vice Mayor Alan Bucao yesterday strongly denied the report that vendors at the Nacario Trade Center (NTC) in Tabunok, Talisay City threw tomatoes at him when he went to the place the other week to campaign.

In the recent past, NTC vendors got angry at some city officials for the closure of the old public market in Tabunok and the city preventing them to sell rice, meat, fish, dried fish, and poultry products.

 â€œKaluoy sa Dios wala ko labaya og kamatis. Sila (vendors) maoy mipahiluna kung asa mi dapita mag-istorya. Wala mahitabo nga gibinastos ko,” Bucao said.

Bucao is vying for the vice mayoral post and suspects his political opponent is behind the issues against him.

“Walay nahimong laing isyu mao ang pagpangguba,” Bucao said.

Bucao said his political opponent has dragged his mother into the issues against him.

He said his parents may not be in good terms with one another but his mother strongly supports him.

Bucao appears to be busy defending himself against allegations, one of which is a copy of a city resolution which pertains to the controversial transfer of vendors from the Tabunok public market to a public market in Lagtang.

This document has been making the rounds in Talisay.

A note attached to it states: “Dokumento sa Talisay nga nagpamatuod nga si Alan Bucao ang nagpasira ug nagpabalhin sa Tabunok Public Market didto sa Lagtang.”

Bucao’s signature is on the document.

But Bucao explained his signature on the resolution signifies that the council discussed the resolution and at that time he was the presiding officer.  (FREEMAN)
