In Talisay City: ABC head pushes for fuel subsidy law
CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Association of Barangay Council president Charles Basillote said it is important that a measure be adopted that will institutionalize the mandatory distribution of fuel subsidy to barangays.
Basillote, who sits as ex-officio in the city council and barangay captain of Dumlog, said even if the city government provides fuel subsidy weekly to barangays that have their own garbage trucks, a law that will institutionalize this arrangement is needed to ensure continuity.
At least 16 barangays that have garbage trucks started to receive a P1,250 weekly fuel subsidy last week.
But before they can get their fuel subsidy, barangays will have to submit copies of registration and plate numbers of their garbage trucks and drivers’ names.
The documents should be submitted to the City General Services Office, which in turn will issue slips for the subsidy.
Sixteen of the 21 barangays in the city have their own garbage trucks. These barangays are Pooc, Lawaan 1, 2, and 3, Poblacion, Linao, San Isidro, Bulacao, Langtad, Dumlog, San Roque, Cansojong, Tanke, Jaclupan, Tabunok, and Biasong.
The barangays have been waiting for the subsidy since November. (FREEMAN)
