Pregnant woman shot; police doubt allegation

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A pregnant woman was accidentally shot and wounded at their home with an air gun owned by her live-in partner yesterday dawn in barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City.

Juvelyn Entice, 30, was allegedly sleeping with her three children on a mat on the floor when she was awakened by mosquitoes.

According to the mother of Entice’s live-in partner, as Entice made a hand gesture to drive away the mosquitoes, she hit the gun which fell on the floor.

She was taken to hospital by her live-in partner for a wound on the left shoulder.

Homicide chief P Sr./Insp Ramil Morpos said the police will investigate the incident further because the information surrounding the incident comes from the woman’s live-in partner’s mother.

Morpos said they will look into the possibility that the couple had a fight before the shooting took place.

According to him, it’s hard to believe the woman was hit on the shoulder if the air gun fell towards the floor.

He said it should have hit a foot or thigh.

The police have yet to study whether to file a case for violation of the Comelec gun ban considering that the owner has not presented a permit for it.

He also said the police seized the gun.  (FREEMAN)
