Elderly urged to join organization

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Celiapo A. Cabuenas, chairman of the committee on social welfare and services, invites residents who are 60 years old and above to join the organization of senior citizens to avail of privileges.

While Talisay’s privileges aren’t a match to privileges Cebu City gives to its senior citizens, Cabuenas said Talisay gives many benefits, including the 20 percent discounts on transportation fare, medicines, food in big restaurants and in movie theaters as well as a five percent discount on electric bills, among others.

Cabuenas said the city government gave bundles of joy to the elderly last Christmas.

Recently, City Social Welfare & Development Officer Mrs. Felipa T. Solana supervised the election of the Talisay City Federation of Senior Citizens Association.

Elected officers of the Talisay City Federation of Senior Citizens Association were Amelia C. Kiamko (Lawaan III) as president; Vice-President-Romeo L. Martinez (Linao); Secretary- Fredeswinda T. Mendoza (Biasong); Treasurer-Angeles R. Gella (Dumlog); Auditor-Rosa Lilia E. Pacquiao (Bulacao); PRO-Virgilio M. Catabas (Mohon) and Joel T. Calimpas (Lagtang).

Board of Directors-Amado C. Baclay (Tapul); Jesusa N. Abano (Pooc); Nelfa G. Roselim (San Roque) and Eliseo L. Gesta (Jaclupan).

“One of the objectives served in consonance with the constitutional policies and Republic Act 9994 is to recognize the rights of senior citizens to take their proper place in the community and to motivate them to contribute to nation building as an integral part of the society,” Cabuenas said.
