Talisay council requests DepEd for nat’l high school in Camp 4

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Dennis B. Basillote, who is the chairman of the committee on education, has asked the Department of Education (DepEd)-Talisay Division to build a national high school in one of the mountain barangays in the city.

Basillote said the city’s goal is to have public schools in all barangays, including barangay Camp 4.

“It is the policy of the state that the education system should reach out to serve educationally deprived communities to enrich their participation in the community,” he said.

Barangay Camp 4 has a total population of more or less 2,500.

The barangay has only an elementary school.

“In the absence of a secondary school, some elementary school graduates residing in Camp 4 are forced to enroll in public and private high schools outside the barangay, which would mean additional financial burden on the part of the parents,” Basillote said.  (FREEMAN)
