CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City’s oldest living person has died at the age of 106 from cardio-pulmonary arrest.

Olympia “Impyang” Judilla, born in September 17, 1906, died at around 7:55 pm last Thursday evening in her bed at her home in Zone Kalabasa in barangay Paknaan.

Judilla recently received P50,000 from the Mandaue City government for being the city’s oldest centenarian.

Judilla’s only daughter, Lucia, who is also the mother of Homicide chief P Sr./Insp. Ramil Morpos, said her mother just before she died was coughing.

She said she applied Vicks Vaporub to relieve her.

“Last week,  kalit lang siyang napagaw, dayon moubo, unya gihatagan lang nako Vicks Vaporub ug kay sukad sa akong namatngonan Vicks ra man dyuy itambal ana niya dayon maulian sad. Gusto dad-on sa akong anak sa hospital aron ipa-admit apan wala lang ko nisugot kay lubnuton unya ang dextrose. Wa baya na sukad makatilaw og injection ug doctor,” Lucia said.

During barangay Paknaan’s fiesta last Sunday, her mother ate porridge. But last Thursday, she only drank water.

“Pagkahuwebes sa gabii, igo na lang og miginhawa og lawom katulo ug wan a nimata,” Lucia said.

Morpos, who is also the deputy chief of the Investigative Detection Management Branch (IDMB) of the MCPO, said his grandmother who he called “Mama Limpia” may have died of “old age, too.”

But for the past few years, his grandmother couldn’t recognize him anymore.

She only knew she had a grandson who is a police officer.

Olympia was a single mother who raised her daughter by plowing a field planted to sugarcane, sweet corn, and others.
