CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) district office has apologized for failing to inform the public about the start last Jan. 31 of the P12.5 million Canduman road or H. Abellana Street. concreting project.

Engr. Renault Ricardo, spokesman of DPWH sixth district engineering office, said the failure caused heavy traffic in the area.

He said although his agency had informed the city in advance about the project, it sent a letter to the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) only on the very day the project started.

“We committed some lapses and we apologize for it,” he said.

Concreting will be made near the Save More Department Store with a length of some 600 meters and near Sacred Heart Ateneo School, measuring 100 meters long.

These two sections were identified by the central office as very dilapidated and have to be “reblocked.”

The project was awarded to Square Cube Construction and Development Corporation and will run for 75 calendar days.

He said the DPWH will try to finish the project ahead of the target date.

Meanwhile, TEAM operations chief Ret. Maj. Edwin Ermac, said a new traffic plan which is in effect prohibits vehicles from entering H. Abellana Street and the highway but allowing vehicles from Canduman to use this road as exit.

On the other hand, all vehicles going to Canduman will take the Pagsabungan road in going to Suico Street. – (FREEMAN)
