Aspirant pledges to push for condo for squatters

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A barangay councilman, who will run for councilor in Talisay City, has promised to push for the construction of a high-rise condominium for informal settlers.

“Daghan kaayo og yuta ang city government nagsige ta og pamalit unya ang uban niini wala gani magamit. Ato ning tukoran og high-rise building para sa mga informal settlers, just like in other cities and in Singapore,” Diaz said.

Diaz, along with barangay Lawaan Councilman Lee Consul and businessman Bensing Raguindin, attended a dialogue forum sponsored by the Sanlakas organization yesterday at the Tabunok Sports Complex.

“The proposal is very feasible. We can invite investors to build the condominium building intended for the informal settlers just like in Cebu City and in Singapore,” Diaz said, adding that the residents of the building will be paying minimal fee for the maintenance.

Most informal settlers are situated along the river and occupying private- owned lots.

Councilor Romeo Villarante already filed a resolution requesting the concerned departments to submit to the council a list of lots purchased by the city government. – (FREEMAN)
