CEBU, Philippines -  Cebu sixth district Rep. Luis Gabriel Quisumbing’s bills which seek to increase the bed capacity of the Eversley Childs Sanitarium in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City, and the establishment of a Public hospital in Cordova town has received support from the Senate.

The Senate Committee on Health and Demography heard his bills to upgrade the bed capacity of Eversley Childs Sanitarium and establishing a 25-bed hospital in Cordova last Thursday.

Senator Pia Cayetano, chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, committed to help in the establishment of local hospitals including the Cordova Public Hospital as proposed by Quisumbing in House Bill 5200, especially given such resources as the sin tax revenues and Philhealth.

“I welcome Sen. Pia Cayetano’s support for HB 5200 to establish the Cordova Public Hospital.  Cordova is a third-class municipality and there is no hospital within the town. Residents rely heavily on the Municipal Health office for consultations and treatment, immunization and even surgery,” Quisumbing said.

In same hearing, HB 1801 seeking to increase the bed capacity of Eversley Childs Sanitarium from 50 to 100 beds, was discussed and positively endorsed by the Department of Health.

“With an increasing and dynamic population, the demand for affordable and accessible health care services is on the rise.   We have to underscore the need to establish and upgrade hospitals in our district to address the health needs of our constituents,” Quisumbing said.   (FREEMAN)
