8 Talisay traffic enforcers accused of extortion

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  At least eight Talisay City traffic enforcers are under investigation for alleged extortion.

The investigation came after concerned citizens apprehended for traffic violations said some enforcers demanded money from them so they will not be given citations.

Vice Mayor Alan Bucao, chairman of the City of Talisay-Traffic Operation Development Authority, said they will terminate the enforcers from the service if allegations against them are proven to be true.

“We will not condone the wrongdoings of our traffic enforcers and that is why they are subject for investigation,” Bucao told reporters.

Bucao, however, said that they will validate the complaint on alleged extortion.

He said he also received reports that some traffic enforcers are asking P5 to P8 each time jeepney drivers pass by to avoid citations.

There are 64 traffic enforcers in CT-TODA, all of them job order employees.

Pending the results the enforcers continue to report to their posts.  (FREEMAN)
