Fire marshal wants another substation

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Fire Marshal Antonio Ortiz yesterday stressed the need for another substation, considering the increasing population in the city.

At present, the city's fire department only has one substation located in Barangay Poblacion. The fire station is at the City Hall. Ortiz wants another substation in Barangay Lagtang so that fires in that part of the city can be responded to easily.

In last Tuesday's session, Vice Mayor Alan Bucao, chairman of the committee on public order and safety, recommended the establishment of a fire substation in Lagtang, which will be placed at the Lagtang Sports Complex.

Bucao said there is a valid reason to grant the request of the fire department because of the increasing population and the rising number of business establishments in the city.

"The need to construct a new fire substation is of great necessity. The construction of a new fire substation, city's firefighters will be given a shorter response time to emergencies especially fire alarms," Bucao said. –(FREEMAN)
