CEBU, Philippines - Businessman Glenn Soco, who is running for vice governor, learned Sunday that a number of residents in some barangays in Danao City, Carmen town, and Camotes Island have had college education but couldn’t find work.

In barangay Masaba and Cahumayan in Danao City, the bailiwick of acting Governor Agnes Magpale and Ramon Durano IV, currently Soco’s political adversaries, parents approached Soco to ask him to help their children find work in Mandaue and Cebu City.

Soco said a mother also told him her son finished an engineering course but makes a living as a motorcycle-for-hire, or “habal-habal, driver.

He also said a graduate of Information Technology finds it difficult to land a job.

In his speech, Soco said the same problem also brought to his attention when he visited Camotes Island and islet barangays of Bantayan Island.

“Ang trabaho gyud maoy una nga gipaabot sa mga kaigsoonan nato, mao nga kini ang gihatagan nato sa pagtagad sa atong pagsuroysuroy karon sa kabarangayan,” Soco told the crowd some of them senior citizens.

Soco told the residents of barangay Masaba that some graduates are not ready for work because they need proper training first.

Soco also cited the need for the establishment of Barangay Employment Service Office to initiate programs for the employment of residents. (FREEMAN)
