Mandaue to slash some consultants’ honoraria

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government is set to reduce the honoraria of some of its consultants.

Lawyer Jamaal James Calipayan, Mayor Jonas Cortes’ secretary, said the city will shrink the honorarium of some consultants who perform “less essential consultancy services” to P12,000 from P18,000 per month.

Mandaue has 29 consultants whose services are set to be renewed every six months from January to June and June to December.

Calipayan said the mayor will study who among the 29 consultants will receive reduced honorariums.

City administrator James Abadia said the city will continue to hire the services of former Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna as the city’s consultant for legislative affairs.

“He submits his reports and visits Mayor Jonas Cortes as required in his contract,” Abadia said.  (FREEMAN)
