Registered voters’ number up in Talisay
CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported an increase in the number of registered voters.
It said the total number of registered voters in the city for the May 2013 elections is 111, 696.
The present count increased by 17,540, compared to those listed for the May 2010 elections which had 94,156 registered voters.
These registered voters are distributed in 525 established precincts in 22 barangays in the city.
Meanwhile, as of January 19, the Talisay City Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported no cases of violations in connection with the implementation of the gun ban since the start of the election period last January 13.
Superintendent Elmer Lim, officer-in-charge of the Talisay City Police Station, told The Freeman that just the same the police will set up checkpoints to ensure peace and order.
As stipulated in a Comelec resolution, no person, including those possessing a permit to carry firearms outside of residence or place of business, shall bear, carry or transport firearms or other deadly weapons in public places including all public buildings, streets, parks, and private vehicle or public conveyances.
The firearms ban also covers the carrying of bladed instruments, air soft guns, and its replicas. (FREEMAN)
